Well, we officially have a 2-year-old! We combined his birthday with the Easter festivities and it was so fun. (Pictures below.) A family friend made Fischer’s cake and it was amazing! Fischer loved it and even blew out the candles all by himself! He had a blast and, of course, didn’t get any presents.
It’s amazing to see how much Fischer has grown this past year. It seems like the first year is all about physical development and the second year is cognitive. His vocabulary is huge and he understands more of what we say than we realize. (We find this out too late, of course.) He can’t sing his ABC’s by himself yet, but he will fill in the blank for you while you’re singing them. He counts pretty well, but skips a few numbers every now and then. He can recognize a few written numbers and letters. My dad got him a John Deere DVD and he now knows the differences between tractors, combines, scoop tractors, excavators, and bull dozers. He is obsessed. We watch that movie every day and he got some more for his birthday. I think I’m already John Deere’d out. He loves to sing. His favorite songs are the ABC song, Jesus Loves Me, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, and Ring Around the Rosy. As I’m typing this, he is in bed singing his ABC’s. He just finished and said, “Yay!” Cracks me up.
He makes us laugh now more than ever. He just comes up with the funniest things, and is also starting to get that little kid call-it-like-you-see-it frankness. The other day he was on the floor. I knew exactly what he was doing and asked him if he was pooping. He sat there for a second, smiled real big and said, “Surprise!” Yes, Fischer, you did have a surprise for me in that diaper. Not my kind of surprise though.
He really is at a fun age. Temper tantrums and all.
